  IWCR hosts a weekly crafting meetup where our members come together to work on their latest knitting/crocheting/needlepoint projects and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea.  This is also an opportunity to explore new cafes around Riga too! There is no RSVP and no requirement to attend regularly.  Just come when you can and enjoy a morning together.

  IWCR hosts a weekly Latvian class where current members take a lesson from a dedicated Latvian teacher.  Each event includes time to practice conversing in the Latvian language.  Weekly vocabulary lists and lesson material is provided. 

  IWCR Members are encouraged to join the Latvian Language Club Subchat in the IWCR Whatsapp Community for the latest in time changes, cancellations, questions, etc.  This is also the method for notifying the hostess of your attendance or cancellation.

  The International Women's Club of Riga hosts a monthly Morning Meet and Greet on the first Wednesday of the month 1000 - 1130.  Any and all ladies are welcome to join us for this event - bring a friend!  This is a wonderful opportunity for potential members and current members to come together to socialize and enjoy a cup of coffee.  The IWCR will share upcoming events, member announcements, and there will often be a representative from one of our charities to come and share an update with us.
  
  Wednesday, June 3rd - Join us for our Morning Meet and Greet at Lapsas Māja (second floor) in Centrs (Tērbatas iela 28). Arrive prior to 1000 to place your order for any desired beverage and food item - at either the first floor counter or by the server on the second floor. All orders and payments will go directly through the Lapsas Māja staff at menu pricing.

  June Guest Speaker: IWCR Member, Maria Rickardsson, will represent both the Riga Milk Formula Charity Project and the Missionaries of Charity.  Riga Milk Formula Charity Project is a project run by volunteer Maria Rickardsson in collaboration with The Mother Teresa Sisters in Riga, Latvia. Funds are raised to purchase milk formula and if fund allows, diapers and wet wipes, which are handed out by the Sisters based on who is in greatest need of support.  For more than 10 years, IWCR has supported the soup kitchen, providing meals, toiletries, and essential daily items to the homeless and vulnerable populations. This long-term support helps meet immediate needs but also brings comfort, dignity, and a sense of care to those facing difficult circumstances.

  June's Member Charity Donation Request: Please consider bringing a donation of any type of toiletry.  If you also have opened toiletries (such as creams, shower gel, shaving cream, etc.) that you no longer need or want, please consider donating those too!

• Fiction Writing Course with William Burton McCormick

  Tavi Draugi, a charity supported by IWCR, invites IWCR Members to join a creative writing course series for English speakers, led by the American writer William Burton McCormick.  All proceeds from the writing course will go to support Ukraine.  Sign up for 1, 4, or all 8 classes in the series - consistent participation is encouraged as each class builds off the previous class.
  
  Have you ever wanted to write a novel?

  Understand the path to publication?
  
  Learn how to write fiction in the English language from a professional writer. A workshop class with writing exercises taught by an award-winning Native English-speaking American author.  The class will consist of exercises to improve your prose, discussions on all elements of fiction writing and the path to publishing novels, short stories and non-traditional fiction.  Students will be expected to write fiction and share their work with instructors and classmates.  No writing experience needed but fluency in English is required.
  
  The first part of each class will focus on writing methodology, exercises, theory, and presentations by various guest lecturers, while the second part will be devoted to group discussion and analysis of the participants’ written work to date.  The cost of individual classes is 15€, 4 classes for 40€, and 8 classes for 70€.

• Jāņi Cheese-Making Charity Event with the Latvian Samaritans Association

  The Latvian Samaritans Association, one of our IWCR-supported charities, has invited our members to experience Jāņi cheese making.  Jāņi cheese is a Latvian sour milk cheese, traditionally eaten on Jāņi, the Latvian celebration of the summer solstice.  Nowadays the cheese has become one of the symbols of Latvian culture.  The Latvian Samaritans Association will provide all the needed supplies and instruction.  IWCR Members will learn the craft, make a large quantity of cheese, pack them in small portions, and then donate the small packs to lonely seniors and people with functional disabilities for solstice.  IWCR Members will be able to take home a small portion of cheese.

  At IWCR we have a strong commitment to helping vulnerable youth and children in Latvia, in Riga, at drop in centers, and with programs to support them.  Our partner charity, Papardes Zieds, is inviting IWCR Members to meet with their founder and leader, Iveta, at their office.  Papardes Zieds is a resource center for youth health, diversity, inclusion, reproductive health, body image, boundaries, and personal rights.  She will introduce us to their active 20 years of work with daycares, primary schools, high schools, their materials, programs, and their new book.  Genuine, professional, dedicated, creative and hardworking, Iveta, will no doubt impress and inspire.  To learn more about Papardes Zieds: https://papardeszieds.lv/
