On Thursday, June 8, our members visited the art gallery located at the former Riga Stock Exchange, which is right in the middle of the old town. The Stock Exchange was quite rich in the 19th century and the building is very representative with a ball room on the top floor decorated with marble and gold.
After the guided tour of the premises, member of our club Katja gave us a talk about the role women played at the stock exchange at that time. For example, we learned about a progressive family Popow, where women were put in charge of the family’s tobacco factory.
