Next to the banks of the Daugava River, you will find one of the most striking icons of Latvian heritage: The Riga Castle. It is one of the largest medieval castles in Latvia, and is the official residence of the President of Latvia, today.

The Riga Castle has undergone many transformations and shifting ownerships throughout the centuries. Today it consists of four stories and a rectangular courtyard, with four rectangular towers on its corners and two rounded towers added during the 15th century.  It is quite rare to go inside the castle, guided sightseeing tours of Riga include typically a view of its exteriors. Vija was able to appoint an internal tour for us in English.

How to get there
Riga Castle is centrally located and within easy walking distance of many hotels like Grand Palace Hotel or Restaurants like “Vecmeita at kaki”, and other attractions, including the Three Brothers building complex and the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia. The nearest tram stop is National Theater (served by lines 5, 7, 9, and 11), a 3-minute walk away.

When & where will we meet
We will meet on Friday, November 1st at 09:45. Please be on time, this time slot is specifically booked for us. The tour will take about one and a half hours.

Meeting venue for the group: Pils laukums.
