The International Women’s Club of Riga is an international group of women offering friendship and supporting local charities.
Every year IWCR elects a new board. This year we have a new wonderful treasurer – Bridget Healy
The treasurer controls all financial flows of the club and without the work of Bridget it would be very difficult to run the club. Also, the treasurer connects the club board members and the accountant, who submits all financial reports to the tax department.
We would like to introduce Bridget Healy and ask her several questions.

IWCR: Bridget, you are a new IWCR member . How did you find out about the club, and what the club does?
Bridget: I first heard of the IWCR back in Canada from someone who was involved with the club and how important it was for her time in Riga. Once I met the other members here, I could see why she was such a fan!
IWCR: Why do you want to give to our organization? What motivates you to be involved?
Bridget: I think it’s really important to be engaged with your community – wherever you are. It brings dimension and understanding to life that you don’t get from work or family. I think in our modern day it can be easily overlooked and forgotten, which makes it so much more important to keep alive – and to keep us connected to realities outside of our own immediate needs.
IWCR: What would you like to pass on to the community and future generations?
Bridget: That’s no small question! I think first and foremost for me is the hope to contribute to a culture of openness and curiosity within the club. I think the pillars of this community are those long-standing members who continue to radiate such grace, openness and joy that makes this a place to keep coming back to. If we can create that space for others, I think that would be a great thing.
IWCR: Would you share with us your favorite experiences in Latvia (a place you like most, a dish, an event, music, culture etc.)?
Bridget: Too many! But for me, there is nothing that has compared to a sunset on a Latvian beach and the serenity of it.
IWCR: Can you share a little bit about yourself? What is your profession, hobbies, what have you done before, your cultural background.
Bridget: I’m an avid reader and nature enthusiast with a big curiosity for art, architecture, and design. Growing up in a small town in Massachusetts, I’m easily plied by promises of a bike ride, seafood, a view of the sea/ocean. I feel very fortunate to live in and get to know this beautiful country and I thank all the Latvians who have made me feel so welcomed.
IWCR: Do you have any tips for other expats?
Bridget: Stay open to new ideas, and be humble, and kind – yes, even when you feel like it may not be reciprocated. Our capacity to learn from others is the greatest gift.
