Dine with me – Australian Online Cooking Evening and Get-together

Dear all,

We are inviting you to a social event generously hosted by our lovely member and Charity Coordinator Kristine Dalina who, as you may know, has an Australian-Latvian background.

Kristine invites you to cook a typical Australian meal, Aussie Meat Pie, with her and her husband Peteris. You may also join without cooking and simply enjoy a chat with her and other participants over a glass of Australian wine of your choice (available in Rimi, Vina studija, Alkoutlet, Spirits&Wine, etc.).

The event will take place via Zoom on Friday 9 April from 7 pm to approximately 9 pm (the meal should be ready by 8:30).

Kristine reveals the history of meat pie: “The meat pie dates back to the 16th century. It was a way to hold cooked meat. The reason for the pastry was to provide a container to cook the meat in. There was a lot of meat in Australia so people started making pies.”

During the event, Kristine and Peteris will for sure reveal much more from Australian culture that you are welcome to enjoy with your whole family.

Shopping list:

1 medium onion finely chopped
500g good quality beef mince (we buy it from the market)
1 cup of water
1 beef stock cube
1/4 cup tomato sauce (tomato ketchup)
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 pinch salt and pepper
3 tbs plain flour
short-crust pastry (if small sheets may need 2 1/2 sheets) – see photo 1x packet
puff pastry (if small sheets may need 2 1/2 sheets) – see photo 1x packet
1 egg to glaze
