Organisations we support
- The Auce Crisis Center for Children “Namiņš”; a drop-in center for children. Every day many children come to the center after school where they receive a free hot meal, clothing, etc. The IWCR supports them with donations of food, shoes, clothes, and school supplies.
- Latvian Association of Cystic Fibrosis; an organisation that supports families in Latvia which have children with Cystic Fibrosis, a congenital genetic disease that can affect various body organs including lungs, intestines, liver, and pancreas. The IWCR provides funding for sterilizers and educational seminars for parents.
- Foster Families Association; an organisation that encourages and supports families raising children left without parental care by promoting social inclusion of children under the care of foster parents and guardians. The Association has united 200 guardians and foster families with 356 children from all regions of Latvia. The IWCR provides funds for their main operation center and school supplies. The IWCR also runs donation drives for clothes and household items.
- Hope for Children and Bolderaja Day Care; a crisis centre for children from families in need and/or dysfunctional families. The IWCR supports them monthly with money for food. In addition, once a year the club helps finance school supplies and new shoes. Sometimes IWCR members come and organise small activities at Bolderaja center, such as cooking, paper crafting, games playing.
- Irlava Orphanage; a state-owned orphanage near Tukums with 30 children from age 2 to 18. The IWCR supports the orphanage with medication, eye wear, and excursions. On June 6, 2013, with the help of sponsors, the IWCR opened a beautiful outdoor playground for children including a wooden swing that was also donated by one of our members.
- Marta Center; a resource centre for women and children, including migrants and non-citizens, women that are victims of domestic violence and human trafficking, and children that are at risk of becoming victims of human trafficking. The center’s help varies from providing psychological help, legal counselling, help with shelter search, etc. Marta is actively fighting to enforce human rights and gender equality in Latvia. IWCR provides funding for a team of specialists helping victims of violence, including psychologists, asylum and house search help, and an administrator.
- Missionaries of Charity; a religious Christian crisis centre / organisation, run by the Sisters of Mother Theresa that helps the poorest people in Latvia. The IWCR provides monthly financial support for their soup kitchen and medicine. Since 2014, IWCR, together with volunteers from Milk Formula Charity, provide milk formula and diapers for single mothers or families in need.
- Ronald McDonald House Charity Foundation in Latvia – Care Mobile; an organization focused on creating, finding, and supporting programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. The Care Mobile unit is a 17 meter long, modern vehicle which is equipped to provide medical services. Patients can receive free-of-charge eye, pediatric, allergy, child neurology, endocrinology, cardiology, and gastroenterology exams, as well as extensive educational programs for children. The IWCR works in partnership with the Care Mobile, and with our funding support they bring medical services to the children at Ilģuciems Women‘s Prison and Irlava orphanage.
- Rupju Berns; an association with ten day care and living centers around Latvia for people with advanced intellectual or developmental disability. Ongoing support for their centers from IWCR over the years has helped to maintain the centers, introduce health, education, activities and excursions.
- Samaritans; as the largest charity organization in Latvia, the Association carries out numerous projects all around Latvia including; a food bank, certified first aid, and basic care via their mobile medical project in remote rural areas. They support several centres in Latvia including crisis centres for children, assisted living for people with handicaps, and the elderly. IWCR has helped with a few smaller projects, such as purchasing clothes or toys based on need, and sponsoring an art project in one of the centres. Currently the IWCR supports the Samaritans with funding for materials and general activities.
- SOS Children’s Villages Latvia; a social charity organisation that provides long-term, family-based care for children who have lost their parents and carries out family support programs. The IWCR provides funding for an individual program for children who have lost their parents.
- St. Saviour’s Anglican Church; For many years, the IWCR has been providing monthly financial support for the soup kitchen in Riga’s Old Town, which is managed by St. Saviour’s Anglican Church Council, a volunteer organization that serves hot food for more than 150 hungry and homeless people at no cost every Saturday. The IWCR makes a month financial contribution to the soup kitchen.
