A 'Grape' Evening at Wendy's Wine Tasting

Wendy and Colin Smith hosted a thoroughly enjoyable Wine Tasting event for our members at their lovely new home in late August.  It was a well-attended, relaxed, fun evening, where everyone brought their own favourite bottle of wine, to share with others.

Our hosts' hospitality was warm and welcoming and the evening was not only really enjoyable but raised a total of 30 Lats for IWCR charities too.

Our grateful thanks to Wendy and Colin.

Cycling in Jurmala

The first-ever IWCR Bike Ride took place in Jurmala in August, on a beautiful sunny day perfect for cycling.

Our Tours & Social Organiser, Ivette Hogervorst had arranged a great two-wheeled itinerary for the group, which featured visits to Jurmala City Museum (fasinating) and the Memorial Cottage of Rainis and Aspazija, the renowned Latvian poets.

After Ivette pointed out many other notable architectural gems (such as the Fairytale House) and lunch at a pavement cafe in Dubulti, the group had an invigorating ride back to Majori along the beach.  Bicyles can be rented inexpensively by the hour, outside Majori Tourist Information Office. If you get the chance to do another Bike Ride hosted by Ivette, jump at the chance, it was a really fun day and she is a great 'unofficial' tour guide!
